VOLUNTEER POSITION: EVOLVE Family Services Board Treasurer

Board Treasurer Role Summary

EVOLVE seeks a collaborative and engaged Board Treasurer who can partner with the Executive Director, Board Chair, Finance Committee, and other Board Members to help provide financial oversight in the delivery of our mission and vision. EVOLVE requests that its Board Members be able to offer approximately three to five hours of their time per month in service to EVOLVE to attend Board meetings, special events, occasional sub-committee meetings, and a commitment to carry out tasks for which they have volunteered.

All Board Members are expected to engage in stewardship and fundraising efforts of the organization, whether through donor acknowledgement and connection, engaging their networks and employers, assisting with campaigns, or directly contributing financially to the organization at a level meaningful to them.

Through your service, you will have the opportunity to learn about the child welfare system, participate in advocacy efforts for systems change, impact agency policy, and support our mission with your knowledge and expertise. Board Members also have opportunities to engage in our work through events, such as our UMOJA MN camps, community outreach, and holiday drive for foster youth and families.

Board Treasurer Responsibilities Include:

  • Chair the Board Finance Committee and serve as a member of the Executive Committee

  • Review agency financials and provide fiscal guidance to the Executive Director

  • Assist in the preparation, review and approval of the annual budget, annual audit and form 990 in partnership with external auditors and staff finance team.

  • Keep the Board informed of important financial events, trends, compliance, and issues relevant to the organization

  • Assist in educating the Board on fiscal planning, organizational solvency and financial decision-making at the governance level.

  • Regular attendance with active participation in meetings

  • Review and contribute to the development of policies and strategic plans

We are seeking a Board Treasurer with expertise in areas including:

  • Experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, FP&A, audits, and business operations.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) within nonprofits.

  • Experience with fiscal planning, non-profit finance, grants, or organization audits.

  • Interest or experience in promotion, fundraising and/or community engagement

  • Embrace social justice and help embody the agency’s work and advocacy in this area.

  • Actively engage in board initiatives and uphold agency standards for antiracism and anti-oppression.

  • Strong interest in EVOLVE’s mission, public service, child welfare, and philanthropy.

  • Contribute philanthropically, either directly or through engaging with outside donors.
