Crew Leads

We can’t host our Black Heritage Camp without the dedication of our incredible community members who serve as camp leads and volunteers. Your involvement makes a meaningful impact on our youth and families, and we especially welcome camp leads and volunteers whose identities or lived experiences reflect those of our campers and families, including those connected to adoption, foster care, kinship care, and transracial families and caregivers.

Our Camp Crew Leads application period for spring camp 2026 is now closed. If you are interested in being a part of our fall 2026 camp, you can start your application today.

Workshop and Program Facilitators

UMOJA MN is always seeking local community groups, businesses, creatives, and thought leaders to partner with us as instructors and activity facilitators for our Black Heritage Camp. We’re looking for individuals and organizations who can share aspects of Black heritage, culture, innovation, and identity through engaging workshops or hands‑on activities.

Inspire youth, strengthen cultural pride, and contribute to a positive, affirming camp experience for our campers and families.

FALL 2025 CAMP: Rooted & Rising

While youth are in their structured classrooms, parents and caregivers participate in culturally-centered workshops designed to deepen understanding, strengthen parenting tools, and build community. These sessions blend expert-led learning, shared experiences, and supportive dialogue to help caregivers confidently raise Black fostered and adopted youth. Families leave feeling informed, connected, and empowered.

Structured Youth Classrooms

Youth participate in structured, age-based classrooms that foster cultural identity, joy, and confidence. Through hands-on activities, African and African-American cultural learning, creative expression, and group connection, youth explore what it means to be rooted in heritage while rising into their future self.
